Meet the Team

Troy Smith | Owner/Production Manager

I began my journey to Evolve, by attending Southwest Missouri State for Computer Information Systems. Upon completing my education, I soon learned that may not be exactly what I wanted to do on a daily basis. So, I went a completely different direction into entrepreneurship. I owned a chain of retail stores for several years before I entered into a purchase agreement to become a part owner of Evolve Granite & Natural Stone.
I have taken great pride in ensuring that we are able to complete projects that many others will not even attempt. I believe that is what sets Evolve apart from other natural stone fabricators. Though I am part owner, I am also the Production Manager. Working side by side with our team on a daily basis brings me a great sense of accomplishment. The highlight of my time at Evolve so far, has been the trip I was able to take to Brazil. Our visit allowed us ample time to hand select exotic stones that we now stock in our inventory.
I have 3 children, ranging in age from 14-18 year old. My oldest, is just about ready to begin her college career at Rockhurst University here in the greater Metro area. In my free time, you'll find me attending my kid's basketball games, coaching recreational football for kindergarten through 8th graders, or somewhere on a beach.

Greta Wakefield | General Manager

"If he brings you to it, he will bring you through it." I have lived by this quote, my entire life and believe whole-heartedly in those words, we are where we are meant to be.
I began my journey as an Architectural Engineer major at Kansas State, but during my studies gravitated to the work of Human Ecology, ending with a Bachelor of Science in Design. Since then, I have spent a total of 15 years as a project manager in the construction industry before entirely switching gears and working in the Long-Term Care industry for over 8 years. I have finally ended up right at home, here at Evolve Granite & Natural Stone.
Outside of work, I am married, have 2 daughters as well as one grandson who all light up my world. I enjoy spending time with my kids, grandchild as well my 5 pets, 3 dogs and 2 cats. One might say my home stays busy! In my free time, I enjoy showing horses, camping and boating. I also adore bringing new life to the old, by refinishing antiques or just about any other home improvement project!

Melissa McCarthy | Sales Manager

Melissa McCarthy, yes that is my real name, & no I am NOT rich and famous like the other Melissa McCarthy. Most folks know me as Mel.

I've been working for Evolve since 2006, when it all started. We were known as Evolve Concrete Design and made concrete countertops. We quickly evolved, and in 2009 transitioned to Evolve Granite & Natural Stone, Inc., I started with accounting, then quickly added receptionist, sales, scheduling & purchasing to my duties. I now manage the sales team & handle a few accounts. I enjoy helping clients bring their vision to reality, working with project managers, as well as showing & seeing the beautiful stones that come from mountains. The best part of the job is when I get a BIG HUG from a homeowner! They have such gratitude & appreciation for walking them through the process and helping to beautify their home.

My husband Bob and I have been married for 30 years! From our union we have 3 loving & caring children; a 23 yr old son Ryan, a 21 yr old daughter Abigail & an 11 yr old son Andrew, plus a little dog Milo. In my spare time I like to read, spend time with my family & teach Catechism to 5th graders at Divine Mercy Parish.

One day I'd like to visit Ireland & Hawaii with my family.

Courtney Taylor | Outside Sales

I was born and raised locally in Eudora. My family owned a masonry company and my sister and I were responsible for the marketing efforts. These responsibilities included little catchy jingles to be recorded on the then called answering machine "Brick, Block and Rocks are our thing......leave a message and we'll give you a ring". As I grew older I set sail to college at Pittsburg State University and studied interior design. I then took the path towards healthcare. In 2005 I became a nurse. I have spent the past 10 years in the wonderful world of healthcare marketing. I am so excited for this new adventure here at Evolve and am already blown away with the beautiful creations we have and projects we have fabricated.

When I'm not working I enjoy spending time at the lake, traveling and playing music with my husband and daughter. My husband is the third generation owner of the family masonry company. My daughter is in high school and spends most of her time cheering, singing and acting. You will often find us all by the fire pit in the backyard playing our guitars.

I am enjoying every day here at Evolve and have learned so much already! My goal is to continue to help Evolve......evolve.

Bob Stuart | Outside Sales

I have worked in sales for years but construction has always been interesting for me. I have grown up and alot of my family still lives in the greater Kansas City area. I would love to talk to you about adding a beautiful counter top to your home.

Lee Curtis | Sales Support

Born and raised in this area of Kansas alot of people ask me ‘What brought you to Evolve Granite?" There are a few things that led me now the path to work for this great place! I started my career in the medical field a far cry from stone and granite. For years I worked in hospital settings when a very good friend of mine came up with a great idea to flip a few homes. I got the construction bug and I have been sick with it ever since! I loved being able to turn an old forgotten house into something people wanted to live in again.
So coming to Evolve made so much sense to me. I now get to work around the construction industry all the time and I love being able to be on the cutting edge of new ideas and materials that come out of this business.
I have three wonderful kids that are all on their way to adult hood, so now I am going to spend my extra time away from Evolve working at my families winery and travel.

Cassie Moody | Install Manager/Scheduling

I have worked for Evolve Granite for a little over a year now. I started out in the office as the sales support specialist, essentially responsible for ensuring receipt of all information for our upcoming scheduled jobs. In May 2016, I moved to production, where I became our Scheduler. I have two small children, a beautiful 5-year-old little girl and a very active 9-month-old little boy, so they tend to keep me on my toes!
When I do find free time, I enjoy spending it with my friends and family. I also love to be outdoors, whether that be canoeing, camping, fishing or shooting blue rock. I also enjoy crafting Pinterest projects out of antiques and old barn wood and I have a HUGE heart for people and animals.

Staci Rossi | Purchasing

I have worked at Evolve Granite for 4 years and have worn many "hats" in my time here. I have managed scheduling, inventory, purchasing and was even a sales associate briefly. I have enjoyed each role but my favorite is selecting the stone we offer to showcase at our facility for our customers to choose from. The highlight of my buying position at Evolve was going to Vitoria, Brazil in May 2016, to hand select material from one of the largest granite distributor's in the country. It was an amazing experience to see how the stone gets from the ground, to the factory, is then cut into slabs by massive machines, polished and then sent to fabricators to showcase. Many of the amazing stones you see in our facility are slabs I chose in Brazil.
I went to Park University and received my Bachelor's degree in Business Administration- Marketing. I have two teenage daughters that keep me busy in my personal time. When I am not in "mom-mode" I enjoy reading books, watching Netflix series, cuddling with my adorable 8lb dog, Max or driving in my Jeep, especially when I can take the top off. I love to travel, I believe traveling keeps my perspective on life and reminds me of the beauty of the earth. From Grand Cayman, to Colorado, to NOLA, to NYC and many more amazing destinations, I love taking in all types of experiences!

Sherri McCarthy | Accounting

I have been with the Accounting Department at Evolve since August, 2012. My past work experience includes 13 years as a secretary for an Engineering & Architectural firm, and 12 years as a school secretary.
My family is my greatest treasure in life. Our three small grandchildren keep our lives full of discovery, laughter, and play. Lounging in the screened porch or sitting by the fire pit, listening to the stillness of the country is where you will find me most evenings.
I have seen the growth of Evolve double in the past five years and I have greatly enjoyed working in the fast-paced environment. Seeing the process from beginning to end - of what could be the focal point of the home is very exciting.

Steve Cunningham | Controller

I started out my career path with thoughts of teaching math, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics. However, soon after graduation, I made the decision to utilize my number of skills in the field of accounting. Since that time, I have added two Master's Degrees to my arsenal of knowledge and am currently studying for the CPA exams. Besides the 25 years as an accountant, I also have experience in restaurant management, retail management and manufacturing labor.
Away from work I enjoy camping and kayaking. My wife and I, recently, purchased a travel trailer that has taken our camping experience to new levels of enjoyment. Another fulfilling activity is cooking. I like to experiment with new ideas and flavors. My Christmas present this past year was a new wood pellet smoker that I have been playing with. Stop in, sometime, and ask me if I have any homemade beef jerky on hand.
As for family, I have a total of 7 children/step-children and 11 grandchildren, all of which bring me great joy. They are scattered across the country, so I don't get to see them as often as I would like.
I am enjoying my work, here at Evolve Granite, working as the Director of Finance. I believe my skills and knowledge will play an integral part in our future growth.
